Sudha Manian - Sitar
Artist
Mrs. Sudha Manian started her Hindustani Classical Sitar
Training at the age of 11. Her initial Sitar training was under
Sri G.V Sreeramulu in Hyderabad.
Sudha also learned classical Indian dancing Bhartanatyam
and studied for Chartered Accountancy in India.
Sudha holds masters degrees in Music; and dance
awarded by Gandharva Maha-Vidyalaya Meerut. Sudha
performed on the All India Radio (Hyderabad) for four
years and participated in the yearly Paluskar Jayanti
and won a number of music competitions.
Sudha is a CPA working as a Finance Manager,
living in Birsbane.
The Sitar is an extremely popular Indian
string instrument. It has a rich cultural heritage with its origin goes back to the ancient Veena. It has been in use for about 700 years.
The sitar uses
sympathetic strings along with a long hollow neck and a
gourd resonating chamber to produce a very rich sound
with complex harmonic resonance an it is predominantly used in
Hindustani classical music.
