Mostar – Blagaj - Rujište
 |
Arrival
in the city of Mostar, where the legacy of the
Ottoman Empire still remains visible throughout the
city.
Mostar first appeared in the 15-th century when a
small settlement began to form around wooden bridge
suspended on chains, on the left bank of the River
Neretva. Its name is rooted in the word "Mostar" (a
bridge guard). In 1566 a new stone bridge was opened
to travellers and merchants. The Old Bridge, as it
is popularly called, served many purposes throughout
its 400-year life.

After a guided tour of Mostar, we proceed to Rujište
Ruiste,
a very-known destination of Mostarians, is located
on the slopes of Mounts Prenj and Velez, only 25 km
south from Mostar. This mountain area, being at 1050
m above sea level, has the greatest concentration of
Oxygen in this part of Europe. Attractive, rich of
natural beauties, an area suitable for nature lovers
and tourists who come here for picnic, relaxation,
or barbeque, is visited during the whole year. Here,
winters are characterized by steep snow, and in
summer periods it is a perfect place for those who
escape from high temperatures in Mostar. The area is
extremely abundant of the endemic species of pine,
called «munika», which makes the site suitable and
healthy especially for sportsmen and as a medical
therapy.
At Rujište we have
a welcome drink of Rakija (grappa) on arrival
and a walk around. Afterwards we proceed to having
cooking lessons and preparation of a traditional
meal. In the evening we have the dinner and wine
tasting.
